Tragédie en cinq actes de Racine "Andromaque" est l'archétype de la pièce classique. Pour ceux qui se souviennent de l'Iliade, Andromaque est la femme d'Hector qui fut tué par Achille. Quand Troie fut mise à sac elle est emmenée avec son petit garçon Astyanax comme butin du fils d'Achille, Pyrrhus. Ce dernier tombe amoureux de sa prisonnière. Pyrrhus est lui même aimé par Hermione qui est aimée par Oreste. Grande Histoire et petites histoires se confondent , s'entrechoquent tandis qu'Andromaque tente de protéger son fils.
